Trump is the Most Corrupt President in US History

It is heartbreaking for me to say this, but in the first 6 months of the Trump Presidency, Trump and Elon Musk and their billionaire friends have engaged in a stunning rampage of open public corruption. It is not fundamentally different than what happens in Russia. These are efforts to steal from the American people to enrich themselves.

- Chris Murphy, United States Senator, Congress.gov. "Congressional Record." March 16, 2025.

Former President Richard Nixon attempted cover up of the actions of the Watergate burglaries led to his resignation and one of the largest scandals in US history. The Teapot Dome scandal occured due to a Secretary of the Interior accepting bribes in exchange for allowing oil companies to lease oil reserves without competitive bidding. Both instances of corruption, previously the high water marks for corruption in U.S. presidential administrations, pale in comparison to Trump's acts of corruption.

Leading the list would have to be his attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 election. His crimes include lying repeatedly that the election was stolen, sending false electors, pressuring officials in Arizona and Georgia to overturn the results of the elections in their states, pressuring the Vice President to reject the election results, and finally inciting a self-coup attempt on January 6th, 2020. No other president in US history has every committed such heinous acts of treason. Watergate seems quaint in comparison.

Second on the list would be attempting to coerce a foreign government to fabricate a scandal to impede his political opponent. It is un-imaginable to think of any other president trying to pull such a tactic. Other presidents had some ability to feel shame and a moral compass. Trump has neither.

Third and finally would have to the many instances of corruption Trump has engaged in in just the first 100 days of his second term. The list is breathtaking: from exploiting his office to launch a ridiculous meme coin, to entering into a quid pro quo with the mayor of New York, to buying $400 million of product from one of his biggest campaign donors, Trump is flagrant in his corruption, believing that the vast majority of Americans will either not pay attention or not care because they believe his lies.

But we are paying attention and do care passionately about our government. And we will not stand for this flagrant corruption anymore.
